Peter Girardi, the executive creative director and founder of Funny Garbage, is one of the foremost designers in the field of digital media. In 1999, he became the youngest person ever to be given the prestigious Daimler-Chrysler Award for Design Excellence. In addition to lecturing around the world, he served on the American Institute of Graphic Arts's (AIGA) national board, acted as the digital design consultant for I.D. Magazine, and is an adjunct professor at the School of Visual Arts. Peter's work is in the permanent collection at the Cooper-Hewitt National Design Museum.He began as a graffiti writer, painting on New York City subway cars and in abandoned lots with his friend and lifelong collaborator, Chris Capuozzo. While at the School of Visual Arts, Peter started creating visuals for computers, long before the standard applications were written. He later became a Producer and Designer at the Voyager Company, then the preeminent producer of CD-ROMs and laser discs. Among the CD-ROM titles he designed and produced were Body Voyage, Painters Painting, The Beat Experience, People Magazine, and MAUS, based on the Pulitzer Prize-winning graphic novel by Art Spiegelman.
He founded Funny Garbage in 1995. The company rapidly became one of the premier producers of interactive experiences for the World Wide Web and emerging digital media. FG has created web sites, cartoons, TV programs, CD-ROMs, kiosks, record albums, motion graphics, books and print campaigns. The company continues to service a wide-ranging client list, including Nike, Microsoft, Viacom, Time Warner, and Bloomberg.
Recently, Peter’s work has been focused on Television production. His credits include Comedy Central’s hit TV series Crank Yankers, the animated series Minoriteam for Cartoon Network’s Adult Swim and the live action series Saul of the Mole Men for the same network. He is currently in production on a Saul of the Mole Men spin off series entitled “Thomas Jefferson, American Phantasm.”
